Current event #2

In Chile, student used desks and chairs to block the streets from police to a prestiges high school in chile's capital Friday. Students have been protesting by sit-in's, marches and strikes because of poor access to public education and privatization in education systems. Mayor of Providencia Cristian Labbe ordered police to remove protesting students from the Santiago municipality but back fired and caused an enlargement in distruction in the city's capital. Students say they will not back down until education is improved. Schools are now back in session with an increase in police presence with is causing an uproar. So far conditions have not improved since Labbe tried to shorten the school year for protesting students but he does not have the ability to alter the already poor conditions of the education systems.

In Clili, Fourteen out of the 23 Chilean coal miners that were trapped for up to 3 months under ground were awarded lifetime pensions. This is a monthly settlement given to the miners for risking their lives for the coal mines and is worth 540 American dollars. To help the jobless miners move forward from this tragic accident, the mining company has set the survivors up with good paying jobs that is less dangerous. Recovery hasn't been easy for the miners for most of them are on lots of medications but with new jobs and more monthly income, the path to recovery gets brighter every day

About me

My name is Jesse Tyler Gates. I was born and raised in Selma north Carolina, and recently moved to Clayton about 2 years ago. I love to hunt and fish and be outdoors. I currently work for our family business laying concrete and interact with a lot of Hispanic co-workers who teach me a little everyday how to speak their language. After high school I hope to attend east Carolina university to study business management so I can help run the family business as my career.
